Sambhaav works to restore and strengthen surface and groundwater systems through long-term engagement with local communities. Our focus is on reviving traditional water systems and developing new ones adapted to local ecology and needs. Since 1999, we have supported water conservation across Rajasthan—including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Alwar, Jaipur, Nagaur, Ajmer, and Dungarpur—by restoring or building lakes (talaabs), ponds (nadis), johads, deep and shallow wells, khadeens, farm bunds, anicuts, rivers, streams, and rooftop rainwater harvesting – tankas.
Through these community-driven efforts, over 20,000 families in nearly 300 villages have benefited, resulting in the restoration or creation of more than 4,500 water and natural resource management systems. These initiatives have improved year-round water availability for drinking, livestock, and farming, even in drought-prone areas, while strengthening local capacity for collective water management.
