OUR STORY

Sambhaav Trust is a voluntary development non-profit organization that has been working since 1999, towards the sustainable development of urban and rural human and natural resources, with a long-term objective of bringing about change – physical, social and attitudinal.

Sambhaav accomplishes its mission by building local and community-level capacity in urban and rural areas using the medium of constructive and organizational work around water, land, forest, pasture and natural resource restoration, conservation and management.

Major areas of Sambhaav’s work include:

Conserving and restoring land, water and natural resources
Strengthening livelihoods of farmers and pastoralists
Building local governance and community-level capacity
Partnering with schools on ecological restoration and conservation
Strengthening livelihoods of farmers and pastoralists
Documenting traditional ecological knowledge systems

Sambhaav’s philosophy and process of work can be broadly understood through the above poster, based on the book Aaj Bhi Khare Hain Talaab by Anupam Mishra.

“Hundreds, thousands of lakes, ponds, wells, tanks etc, did not suddenly materialise out of thin air.

They came into existence due to the efforts of people who commissioned them and the efforts of people who built them. Together, these ones and twos multiplied into hundreds and thousands.

In the last two hundred years, however, a section of today’s society after receiving a little modern education, has managed to reduce these ones, twos, hundreds, thousands to zero.

It is possible to once again make this zero into ones, twos, hundreds and thousands.”
